Baby Foods
After Donna was solely responsible for feeding Anna for the first several months (not that Kevin chose to do nothing, but biologically that was determined), Kevin has taken a role in making the solid foods. After getting her started on cereals, we've been introducing a new food each week.
The foods are:
- carrots
- pumpkin (bought at the Farmer's Market in the fall and frozen in anticipation)
- butternut squash
- green peas
- potato
- sweet potato, one of her favorites
- beets
- apples
- bananas (uncooked, just mashed with a fork)
- pears
- broccoli
- ceci (chick peas) -- these are a bit much for her at first, too lumpy
- red sweet peppers
- yoghurt (unsweetened, full fat)
- green beans, which she seems to really like even though neither parent is that fond of them
- spinach, cooked then raw,
- cantaloupe (only if it's ripe!)
- chicken
- turkey
- lentils
- avocado
- in a bunch: beef, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, french bread (accidental -- she grabbed it off a table at MeliMelo, our favorite creperie). We're giving her more chuncks, which she doesn't always like.
- ricotta, kiwi, strawberries, graham crackers, peaches
- now that she's 11 months, the foods have been cascading, including blueberries, raspberries, cherries, crackers, pitas, goat cheese, ....
All organic. Kevin bakes them and puts them through the food processor. At day care they're not so fond of the beets: they're colorful coming and going!
My brother, Eric, got us a great book to get us started, Homemade Baby Food, Pure and Simple, by Connie Linardakis. It gave us an idea of what foods to introduce, when.
